Kaziranga floods: A necessary Evil

Kaziranga National Park - Wikipedia

Kaziranga is situated between Brahmputra River and Karbi Anglong hills. Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve has an area of about 1,055 Sq Km. It has a floodplains ecosystem i.e. created by floods. It is also feeded by it. Alluvial deposits of Brahmputra and its tributaries forms an entire area. So, water is must for this whole system. Floods every year replenish Kaziranga's water bodies and maintains its landscape. The floodwaters also acts as a breeding ground for the fish. This fish is carried by receding waters into the Brahmputra. So, the park replenishes the fish stock of the river.High floods are not good for the park.Deforestation and release of Dam waters exacerbate the situation.
